Queenslander Transformation - Hamilton
Construction is about to commence on this Hamilton Queenslander, with a design that lifts and extends the existing home to create a generous, contemporary five-bedroom family residence while retaining the character and proportions of the original house.
The existing lower level is dark, damp and largely uninhabitable, with poor natural light and challenging ground levels around the home. The proposal reworks the relationship between the house, garden and pool, introducing new retaining walls and adjusted external levels to create a more functional, comfortable and connected ground floor.
The main living areas are relocated downstairs, creating a light-filled open-plan kitchen, dining and living space with a direct connection to a new alfresco area and the existing pool. A generous master suite with walk-in robe and ensuite, a study and a separate media room are also incorporated at this level.
Upstairs, the existing Queenslander is reconfigured to accommodate the remaining bedrooms while preserving its distinctive character. Externally, the additions are designed as a contemporary extension of the original home, with a new carport, reworked landscaping and a cohesive material palette that gives the house a fresh identity without losing what makes it recognisably a Queenslander.
Once complete, the home will feel substantially larger, brighter and more connected, giving the original house a new life as a relaxed and highly functional family home.
